To put it down, I was never much of a J Dilla/Jay Dee fan before I got to know him instantly. His musical production seems to be doing for me IMO. I can't hate. Completed during a year J Dilla mostly spent in a hospital bed at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, Donuts would gain particular J Dilla's sparkling production adds a smooth, cool atmosphere that nonetheless fizzes with energy. This is a beautiful kaleidoscope of catchy beats and compelling samples from a master of the genre taken far too soon. The inclusion of the stylish 'Donut' cover is a lovely touch too! J-Dilla aka Jay-Dee alias James Yancey whose Works was released prior to his death on Feb 10 became known as a worldified timeless masterpiece. This is really good.
